Want a different perspective on your personal growth progress, especially when it feels like you’re going backwards?
Zoom out.
To use some math terms (I AM a math teacher soooo), you are probably at a local minimum, even though you are trending up.
Similar to the stock market. Even though it had dips in 2008 and 2020, it’s continued to go up over decades. Those dips were just local minimums. If you judged the market over the long term solely on those times, then you wouldn’t invest into it.
But if you zoomed out and saw the market from the 1950s onwards, then you’d be crazy not to put some money in and let it sit and compound.
Same for you. If it feels like you’re dipping or just even plateauing, that’s totally normal.
Plateauing could just be the feeling that you’ve already integrated whatever you’re supposed to learn and are ready for the next thing. In which case, make space for it!
If you feel like you’re dipping, zoom out. Go from that 1 Day view to the 1 Week view. If the 1 Week view isn’t great, then go to the 1 Month view. If that’s trending down, then go to the 1 Quarter view. And so on.
Keep zooming out until you see the progress that you have made. It’s not about avoiding what you’re feeling. It’s about recognizing the truth of the journey you’ve been on.
Expanding the perspective to make it more encompassing.
If you want help zooming out by talking to someone, hmu. I’m here.
