Adulting for Recent Grads recap | 7/2/25

The growing Adulting for Recent Grads group just had an amazing conversation on Monday evening!

Some major themes and questions from it

→ I noticed that pretty much all of us introduced ourselves first/only with what we do in our career. Not a bad thing but interesting to see how early in our careers, we identify with what we do first and foremost.

→ When did it become acceptable to go into massive debt to attend college without questioning it but not seek opportunities to work and make an impact right away?

→ How can/will we approach educating our children? Are public schools or even private schools the move any more? All of us seemed to agree that taking at least one gap year after high school to work/apprentice, travel, experience the world, and upskill would be ideal.

→ Education is one of the most important professions, why are they paid in exactly the opposite manner?!

→ There is an enormous potential wealth transfer of local trades business – HVAC, plumbing, etc. – are there ways to ride that wave? Why weren’t the trades professions emphasized or valued as much as STEM professions in the US the last couple of generations?

→ Several of us were or are in career transition phases. So how is that similar or different for each of us?

→ Just like how Rust Belt cities were decimated over the course of several decades and globalized outside of the US, will the ‘Tech Belt’ cities be that next wave in the coming years/decades? (San Fran, Austin, Seattle, etc.)

I loved how everyone was fully engaged, asked amazing questions, gave their honest and differing opinions, shared both individual stories and systemic observations, and listened to each other respectfully!

If ANY of these topics sound intriguing to you, then join an Adulting for Recent Grads conversation. We meet every Monday at 8 pm ET! Hit me up if you’re interested.
