Idea #1 of the week: WriteNow.
I know other things already exist with this name, but for right now, it can be called WriteNow (see what I did there 😉)
It’s a combination of a Live Snapchat Map + Meetup.
Many times, I’m at a coffee shop or park journaling on my own. Now that’s an individual activity, but I wouldn’t mind if someone came up to me and started a conversation about what I was writing about.
Some people would like that, some people wouldn’t. So it’s hit or miss.
But what if there was a way to signal that publicly?
That’s where WriteNow comes in (*fun slide transition*)
Let’s say you get to a coffee shop (which is where I’m currently writing this). You signal on the app that you’re “Writing but open to convos”. Someone in the general area sees your little avatar and how far away you are. They could be at the same coffee shop, a nearby store, or something else. They see this, pop by, and start a conversation.
It feels like an organic, spontaneous way to meet people centered around a wholesome activity without the awkwardness of thinking that you’re hitting on them or trying to sell them something.
Now this could be expanded to not just writing, but reading, working, or any other activity that is generally done alone.
Meetup and Eventbrite are focused on PLANNED events and meetups.
Snapchat Map, Life360, and Apple Find My Map are location based but don’t focus on COMMUNITY or activities.
This idea is at the intersection of these existing apps.
1) Is there anything like this that already exists??
2) Would anyone actually use it??
Curious to hear y’alls thoughts. If enough interest/support, I may even actually build something like this :)
