When I talk about investing in yourself, it doesn’t need to be thousands, hundreds, or even dozens of dollars.
The way that I started was by doing free things. What sort of free things? I prioritized being private in public spaces.
Like reading at a food hall.
Like journaling at a coffee shop.
Like doing Tai Chi and Chi Gong at a park.
These are all spaces where others are around. But you’re doing a solo activity. They most likely won’t come up to you, but they could! You could strike up a conversation that ends there. Or it could be one that changes the trajectory of your entire life!
I could have done all those things at home. In my one bedroom apartment at the time. With no one else watching.
But being private in public spaces is how I was able to expand my perspective while doing the things I wanted to / needed to do.
Not to mention it increased my luck/serendipity/chance encounters.
In all those situations, people actually came up and asked me what I was writing/reading/doing. Those interactions I still remember to this day.
If you lean more introvert, then it’s great because you’re still by yourself. If you lean more extrovert, then it’s great because you’re still surrounded by people doing their own things.
So it’s a great middle ground and starting point for anyone!
Being alone in public spaces is how I invest in myself!
